View Full Version : Timing With a Gear Drive
I have a phaser gear drive in my 97 and the dealership is installing a new IP under waranty. I remember that they recomended setting the TDC offset at -1.94 but I can't remember what they recomended for the timing. Can some one help me out? The tech doing the work said he would set the numbers where I wanted so I just need to find out what numbers to tell him.
Thanks

If you do the TDC Offset Learn procedure and achieve the -1.94 TDC Offset, your timing will be about 8.5 BTDC. That's all there is to it.
Correct - have them time it using TDCO LEARN - the displlayed value will tell them how much and which direction to increment IP position to get it into time.
The engine should continue to start based on the previous TIME SET.
_0.5deg TDCO = +3.5deg Des\Act timing
-1.5deg TDCO i= +8.5deg Des\Act.
-1.94 can be set by increasing engine rpm off-idle to about 1200-1500rpm, exit TDCO when desired value is displayed..
