02 2500hd Duramax?

What is it worth? Auto trader prices seem ridiculously high. It is an ex. cab short box, 4x4, good BF goodritch tires, duramax/allison auto, 108k mi., 2nd owner, owned it since about 65k mi. and havent had 1 issue, relatively loaded, and looks and drives like new. $18-19k???

I ran my '02 with 21,000 miles through Kelly Blue Book and came up with $32,250 if I sold it myself. Thats about $5000 down from what I paid for it when it was new. Can't see trading it in at this time, since I finally own it. Plus I am still adding toys to it as I go along.

An interesting exercise would be to run the exact same truck through KBB, but equipped with a 6.0L gas engine/4L80-E or an 8.1L/Allison. This'll let you know how much value is retained by the diesel engine option, and can be used to learn more about the true cost/benefit of diesel ownership. :)

I ran mine ('01 DMAX K2500 with 115k miles) through both ways and came up with about $6,500 difference -- roughly the cost differential when I bought it, if I recall correctly. Considering the savings in fuel with all the towing I do, I'm doubly confident I'm staying ahead of the game with the DMAX.

Also, I'm crazy enough to maintain a full log and then track all my costs in a spreadsheet, including fuel, insurance, registration, repairs, etc. As of 115k miles, my total cost is down to $0.49 per mile, and it currently drops a penny with each additional 4-5k miles. Just for the heck of it I cranked back in the proceeds from selling it today at the KBB price and my operating costs drop to $0.37 per mile. Not bad......

Ok, I ran it both ways and this is how it came out.

6.0 $26,320.00
6.6 $33,250.00

Difference; $6,930.00
Price changed on 6.6 because I left out an option the first time.

Still wouldn't sell it!

I bought a 2002 K2500HD ext cab long box with 132K miles last week for $19,750. It was a southern lease return with road miles. White in color with LS interior but ordered with crank up windows. Odd feature omission. Near new Michelins all the way around. 70% brakes all four corners. No leaks anywhere. Warranty check indicates original injectors, but rear end was replaced around 55K. I bet it still had the factory fluid in it and it failed.

Small local dealer wouldn't take my 85K mile 2003 flatbed K3500 reg cab 6.0 gas in trade, but ran it through the auto auction for me and it fetched 12.7K. Didn't want to mess around selling it privately for the extra few bucks.

I am very happy with the deal. The 'new' truck now has new shocks, all fluids and filters, ebrake controller and gooseneck. Ready for a real workout for the second half of its life. It drives like brand new.

Love these trucks! They really become part of the family when they put the bread on the table.

Sounds like my truck less a few items. I'd sell mine for that. Amazing the difference gas from diesel in resale. Last truck was ford v-10, couldnt give it away.

I want my wife to trade her Pacifica on a Liberty diesel. We would be 'gas-less' at that point, with the exception of toys.
