Now I need help again. My gp controller, relocated to the left fenderwell, will intermittently cycle at random. It sounds almost like I receiving morse code. It will usually cycle properly on start up, but then go nuts on my drive to or from work. Today, I parked at home, shut the engine down and turned the ignition back on with the hood open. It was acting up, and so was a relay mounted on the left fenderwell, close to the firewall. When I unplugged the relay, the controller stopped...no activity at all. Plugged the relay back in, nad the weirdness began again. This relay has 4 wires, orange, green, pink, and brown, all with a black stripe. What's going on? Thanks, all.

Sounds like someone did some glow controller mods.....

Your 1988 6.2 should be using a combo relay/controller like that shown in the online Troubleshooting Resource - chapter 13 (http://www.thedieselpage.com/members/guide13.htm).

How about posting a photo of what you are seeing on the LH fender?

Bob - here are my photos from a previous post. The first is the relocated controller; second is the 'mystery relay'; third is the connector for said relay.

Not sure why these didn't appear as links, but if you copy and paste them in your browser they should work. Thanks,

Sort of sounds like my problem in my 6.5. The glow cycle starts out ok but then at the end goes into "morse code" like you describe for awhile before shutting off. I've checked grounds and replaced the glow plugs. Next step is to replace the controller itself.

Hmmm...and this is a new controller. Well, new as of when I performed the relocation mod. I have another that acted the same, so I returned an old one for warranty. The new one had the same intermittent problem. Will try swapping the one in. My concern is that the 'morse code effect' and failed controllers is only a symptom. I really want to locate the problem...88 bucks a pop gets a little pricey. But will attempt the swap and see what happens. Thanks,

I was going through old posts and came back across this. Replacing the controller did stop the "morse code" problem that I had been having. Now the glow plug indicator lights up, goes off, and lights up briefly once or twice again. But not the "ratcheting" or "morse code" clicking...
