Ok I am planning on swapping out the motor and transmission in my Wagoner with a 6.2 out of a 1991 Chevy van (it only has 25000 original miles). The problem I have (I have searched) is that the van is 4x2 and I don

The van engine will work just fine in your Jeep (with some changes of course)

The oil filler tube is really really long, as is the transmission dipstick tubes, you'll want the truck versions.

The transmission won't accept a transfer case, well not the transfer cases you think of. You'll have to use a divorced transfercase with a 2WD tranny. You'll need a 4WD case TH700 to mount to the engine.

The TH700 tranny will use an NP208 case, but you can probably adapt anything you want with $ of course.

You can change the 4X2 700-R4's output shaft to a shorter, 4X4 version, and a NP-208 transfer case will bolt right up with the standard adapter.

The 4X4 cases are a little heavier around the bellhousing area, and drilled and tapped for the aluminum bottom pan for under the torque convertor, which allows the use of the braces from the convertor pan to the front motor mounts.

IIRC, this is desirable, but not absolutely necessary. If I had the good 4X2 tranny, I would not hesistate to swap the tailshafts, and use it in the Jeep.

So, what would you like to know? Been there, done it. Well, working on it anyway...

Ok what I would like to know is how to make this transmission work and what transfer case to use. I was told that the transmission in this thing is a 4l80e. Thanks for the input guys!!!

You either need to get the factory pieces to convert the 2wd trans to 4wd and use a stock GM xfer case. IIRC, the 208 has the front output on the wrong side. I remember thinking that I would have needed to use a 241.

Alternatively you can get adapters from Advance or Novak and run the stock Jeep xfer case, which is what I opted to do.

The cheapest thing would probably be to sell the 2wd trans and find a 4wd trans/xfer combo.

What year Waggy are you working with?

I am working with a 83 waggy so I am trying to get rid of all the vacuum stuff!!

I deleted all the vacuum stuff from mine also. I'm converting the tcase to cable control, and I removed the factory A/C stuff (mostly due to turbo clearance problems under the hood) and I'm replacing it with a unit from Vintage Air. This also allowed me to remove the vacuum pump from the engine.

You might consider a divorced NP205 out of a Dodge or IH product. If your Wagoneer has engine mounts anything like the M715, converting it is E-Z.

Or you could buy this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-Jeep-J10-GM-6-2-diesel-Dana-60-NP-205-rockcrawler_W0QQitemZ4627957273QQcategoryZ6286QQss PageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZ and swap all the parts to your Wagoneer.

You could also just cut the output shaft to the reqd length if the splines are long/short enough . You can also use an NP241 t case . Dont bother with the divorced crap way too much work . Is the 2wd tailhouseing removeable/ie unbolt
from the trans case ?post some pics so we know exactly what you have .Measure the shaft length , diameter and spline count .- A
