View Full Version : Swapping intake manifolds
I bought a J style intake manifold on Ebay for my 1990 suburban. It did not come with the fittings to connect to the CDR valve. It needs two hoses one on each side. My old manifold only had one. Were can I get these parts?
When I removed the old EGR manifold it was full of soot. Do I have to remove the injector lines to replace the gaskets or can I just loosen them? Thanks

You could use the intake, but the CDR connection is going to be the problem there.
I understand what you're looking at. The 88+ burbs had one CDR valve mounted to the passenger's side valve cover and then a 1" tube connecting to just one nipple on the side of the intake manifold.
The style intake you purchased is for a range of 6.2's but mainly those from 82-87 with dual CDR hose connections.
Personally, it would be a lot less trouble to find a single plane intake to install in place of your EGR version, you have the dual plane now from the sounds of it (or a hummer intake).
You can probably purchase one of these intake you need from The Diesel Depot, they're listed in the advertisers section of the main website.
As for replacing the intake gaskets. You'll want to stuff rags into the intake ports in the heads, then remove the gaskets from underneath the injector lines. You'll want to keep trash out of your engine while you remove the gaskets. The OEM/Victor Reinz gaskets are a real pleasure to remove, you'll need to scrape them off with a razor, or some gasket remove spray and a putty knife. The new gaskets will easily slide underneath the injector lines while you're installing them carefully before dropping down the intake again.
