What is the difference between a 4.10 and a 3.73 differential beside 0.37. I will be ordering a new truck this year and want to make sure that I order the right options.

No difference, just a deeper gear. I don't think that the 4.10 is an option though? I can't configure it on the GM build site anyway.... :confused:

The 4.10 gear will provide more torque, but less miles per gallon than the 3.73 gears.

The 4.10 and 3.73 gears are both available with the gasoline 8.1 L engine.

The Duramax Diesel engine comes with the 3.73 gears ONLY.

That is not neccessarily true. It seems like this would be the case, but it's not. If you are talking about a heavy truck towing, the deeper gears (4.10's) will allow the tranny to stay in O/D more often like when towing up hill or in a head-wind. This will actually raise fuel mileage compared to the 3.73's. Also, around town driving, not towing, the truck is heavy and getting it moving requires torque. The 4.10's will actually get it moving quicker with less effort on the engine. Case in point, my brother has a '99 Z71 1500 with a 5.3L and 3.73 gears. He installed 4.10's front and rear (4x4) and picked up 2.5mpg city driving. He also picked up a tad towing, not much about .5 mpg, but the performance of the truck was much better when towing as far as passing and manuevering. My advice, if you are getting a truck with the 5.3L or the 6.0L and plan on towing get the 4.10's. The 8.1 seems to hold it's own regardless of gearing, unless towing real heavy, then it's 4.10's. However, if you are getting a DMAX this is a moot point as the DMAX only comes with a 3.73 and plenty of grunt.

The '06 with LBZ and 3.73s will tow your 5 tons of cargo and trailer like it isn't even there.

We are towing 12-14K regularly and expect to cruise hundreds of loaded miles at 65mph, stop safely (with good e-brakes and Prodigy controllers), and get 12+ mpg at the end of the day.
