Talk to the folks from www.peninsularengine.com about parts. They may have what you need. Personally, I'd ask for 1988-95 serpentine components. The AC compressors and alternators are less expensive, and the brackets are lighter/less complicated - and work better with the 130-gpm hi-cap cooling mods for a mechanical fuel injection system.

If you want to run the serp conversion and do not have a/c is there an idler pulley or some type of dummy pulley to take the a/c's place ?

Thanks

maybe we could start a sticky post of part#s that are serpentine, maybe make a list accesories and brackets and everyone can add anything they come up with!!??

I am in the process of getting the parts together. Looks like you need a water pump, a/c pulley, alt pulley, belt tensioner, maybe that vacumm pump if you need one. I am getting all the brackets and everything from a 6.5TD this afternoon.

Is there any more info on this? I want to do the conversion and go with the '97 cooling mods. Do you need a 6.5 water pump backing plate also to run the bigger '97 serpentine water pump?

You do need a 6.5L (reverse rotation) backing plate for the water pump. I'll post the list of the part numbers I used for the 96+ conversion hardware as soon as I can find it.

I've got a few water pump backing plates kicking around for a serpentine application... A few bucks for shipping, if anyone's interested.... :)

They are new take-offs.... :) You'll just need to clean off the red anaerobic sealant off the backside and perhaps some of the original WP gasket.

Grape,

email me if you would at cflint@midamericarv.com

I'm going to have to upgrade to the 97+ cooling mods to keep my hot rod engine cool!

Here's a photo of a serpentine setup I have been toying with on my "shop mule" 6.2. I picked most of the parts up on ebay a couple of years ago, and I'm finally getting the parts organized. Note how the idler blocks access to the water fitting. The correct (DIRTY) water crossover is lying behind the incorrect one that is bolted in place.

The belt is too long, and the power steering pulley is not pressed onto the pump shaft.

I can't recall what the setup is supposed to have come off of, perhaps a van with no AC?

There is a dummy idler where the AC compressor would go, made of an unfinished vacuum pump. There is no hole in the aluminum housing where the "POD" would go, if it were a complete vacuum pump.

Does anyone recognize this setup?

The placement of the accessories (alternator above #1) is like the 92-95 truck types, probably with the a/c deletion. Can't vouch whether or not this could have come off a van though, but the placement of the water-in-fuel petcock is suspicious.

Thanks for the photo of the crossover problem, I guess that's just one of the issues in using the older 6.5 serpentine arragement. Getting that later crossover will be NO problem, as it's the same one that most of the 6.5 guys are removing to upgrade to dual stats, I have one on hand to get rid of.

I've got the 96+ setup on hand, but I was planning on using it on the '95 6.5 to upgrade to the newer style a/c compressor (gets colder in my opinion).
