You can sure do away with the EGR in a few ways.
Unplug the solenoid and disable vacuum getting to the solenoid and EGR valve.
Replace the intake manifold and gaskets for that of a "J" series HD 6.2 engine for the same year 6.2 you already have. No problems will result.
Does the HD intake manifold have to be the same year?

Moody,
It's preferred that the intake be from the same year, but not necessary.
The 82-83 model intakes had tapped provisions to mount the secondary fuel filter to. So if upgrading one of these models, it will make life easier to get the intake from an 82-83 model J series engine.
For 84+ engines without the secondary fuel filter mounted to the back of the intake, you can use the 82-83 J intake or the 84+ intake, it won't matter because everything else is the same.
