I'm going to take the plunge and buy a new '06 2500hd. My dealer still has a few LLY's around which are about $2000 less the the LBZ's. My question is, Is there any updates on the LBZ motor that wouldn't be on an '06 LLY? I dont need the extra horsepower so I'm leaning toward the LLY to save some cash and maybe some fuel.

I purchased a duramax/express last month. It also has the LLY, though its 250hp. Before the purchase I read HERE somewhere that all internals were new for 06 and that included the variable turbo, block, lower comp ratio, etc. I think (that's when I get in trouble) an 06 LLY is the same engine as a LBZ except for the tune, and maybe my aftercooler.

Maybe the truck LLY's are left over 05's? It'd be nice to get a definative answer about these changes.

is the six speed allison new for the 06 lly, or just the lbz.
My '06 LLY has the 6 speed Allison and the Bosch ECM. Don't know about the rest...
My guess is they waited until the end of Employee Pricing and then changed the programming...
Check out this link. If you don't know a ton about diesels, then this might not mean much. After reading this, I wouldn't buy anything but an LBZ. I now have an 06 LBZ dually crew cab 4x4 that I absolutely love. Elevated Idle in cold temps, better glow system with intake heater, quieter engine, more horespower from the factory, and bottom end enhancements. I didn't need much more convincing.

ten4 lbz ! i'm towing 14000 lb fiver and its all this 96 6.5 TD can handle on a nice day i'm sure looking hard at the state of the art LBZ, i think i could love that too! thanks for your input!
I have the 06 LLY. It has all the updates the LBZ has, except for the extra power. Tell ya what, this truck warms up 20X faster than my 02 LB7 did. Amazing. One of the main things I noticed right off was the turbo wine from take off. I dont know if I ever heard the turbo on the LB7. I also believe the LB7 did a little better on fuel than this one. Anyway. I do like it. I must, 2nd one.

I have owned 3 duramax trucks so far with a total of 155,000 combine miles of seat time. By far the 2006 has the best tuned trans of all the trucks! I have had a 2001 , 2004.5 lly and now a 2006 lbz . I dont think you would be sorry you got a 2006 lly but I do think if you desided to get a 2005 lly 5 speed truck you would be missing a big improvement!
