Truck has been outside parked on the street untouched since Saturday the 11th. The temperature this morning was -14. I had it plugged in, but when I unplugged it this morning, I felt the thermostart housing and went, "oh no." There was no power coming out of the extension cord. I turned the key and let the wait to start light do its thing. With Amsoil 15-40 and good AC-60g's. The truck instantly started with a little less than 2 seconds of cranking ( I counted!). The first exhuast was very white and quickly went away. Engine was smooth and oil pressure was high after just a few seconds. Pretty proud of the ol' girl.

It was a balmy -20F (compared to Butte) on the Whitehall side this morning and like MTTwister, I decided to ride with the wifey because gas is cheaper than diesel and I didn't want to start the truck after sitting in the lot not plugged in all day.
I'm glad your truck pops right off at the temp, mine will do it but somewhat reluctantly. If only I could find a current bush to plug into at hunting camp.
It was a -28f here this morning, the old thermometer doesn't seem to be working as it was below the numbers -35f (it's a cheapo).
I'm glad of 4 things:
1. I had it pluged in all night.
2. I have a glow plug override smile.gif
3. I have Rotella 5W-40 in it.
4. I dosed the fuel durring fill up ealier in the week with Power Service. I'm running winter #2 which with out would have plug the fuel filter.
It is very "fresh" outside to say the least.

It was about 13 below here this morning. I had it plugged in last night! ;)
I didn't drive it to lunch today so it will be started at 5pm...with the push of a button, courtesy of my Compustar remote starter! :D

My 6.5L started yesterday without being plugged in, it was a little smokey for 1-2 minutes after...Those 18:1's don't like the cold as much as the stock compression. I think it was around -14F or so...
Sounds like you have good batteries, GP's and fuel.

-20C up here and I don't dare leave her unplugged over night.....hell have no fury than a cold 6.5....or is that the wife?

Living in 'Great White North' the first thing I got for my 'new 'AMG engine was dual block heaters , just like summer for starting, thou I usually garage the truck ( '95 w/ engine bank loan about $20,000 cdn !) gota laugh or I would cry.
Mine starts fine down to about 10F or so without being plugged in and with only 1 battery (875CCA EverStart from Wally.) It cranks for maybe 2-3 seconds before starting (approx 10-12 seconds manual glow) and does run rough with a lot of smoke for a minute or 2 after, but that doesn't bother me too much because I let the engine warm up a few minutes before driving off anyway. Last night it started just fine after cold-soaking all day in temps that maybe got up to 20F (I work 15-16 hour days at a ski area) but did take a while to develop heat LOL
