So it finally got cold in Montana. Went up to the mountains to cut some fire wood. Engaged four wheel drive.

Waiting....Waiting....Hmmm..no four wheel drive.

Once again the actuater went out. I was looking in to options...again. I remeber some on the solenoid in the newer trucks, but was also looking at the manual torc-locker.

Heard good and bad on both, any opinions?

If I were to go with the solenoid what would I need and how does that bad boy get hooked up?

Thanks in advance :D ,

The newer unit from GM is a little electric grearmotor/linear actuator.

It screws in in place the the thermal wax-pellet unit, and connects with a changeover wiring harness which mates the old and new plugs together. A wire extends from the harness that gets run back to the left side of the transfer case to connect to a source of switched, fused (by the 4X4 fuse) power to operate the new actuator. Not a big deal to install, and I haven't (yet) seen one of the new actuators fail.

And, engagement is about "instant".

Depending on year manual setups like posilock will set a code if the harness is disconnectd, not sure which years though.

I have done the upgrade...it is well worth it. However, check all of your connections and fuses first to ensure that power is getting down to the actuator.

Yep power is there. Little SOB works when its in the heated garage, gets a little cold and no way.
Anyway, I think I am taking back the posilock/torc-lock, whatever it is called and going with the newer set up.

Does anybody have Part# for the actuater and harness?

I was reading an old post of mine on this subject and somebody was saying you could hook up a switch and run it in 2wd low. Is that something that is feasable? Or should I quit while I'm ahead?

Here's the numbers, if they haven't been changed lately:

Harness: GM # 12376316

Actuator: GM # 26060073

I have just attempted to install this on my '95 and I do not know what circuit to splice into. As you say it connects to the left side of the transfer case but which connector and what circuit? Please help...

Thanks in advance...

That wire connects to a brown wire that is one of two wires connected to a switch on the left side of the transfer case.

You will have to "tap" into the wire, as no matching onnectors are supplied with the harness to make it a plug-in deal.

The purpose of the wire is to bring a power source up front to the actuator that is supplied through the 4X4 fuse, and NOT switched at the transfer case.

If you question if you have the correct wire, you can probe it with a test light, and verify that it is "live" any time the key is "on", and NOT affected by transfer case shift position, and further, pulling the 4X4 fuse will "kill" it.

Here's the numbers, if they haven't been changed lately:

Harness: GM # 12376316

Actuator: GM # 26060073

The part number for the harness is not working on GM Parts direct.com

Please advise.

Looks like harness # 12376316 has been changed to # 88959465.

Was going to upgrade my K3500 to newer actuater.

Dealer had 2 PN's: 1/2-3/4 ton and a 1 Ton.

Was 164.00 for the 1 ton 64.00 for the 1/2-3/4 ton

The 1 ton was more than 2x the price of the 1/2-3/4 ton.

? what is the differance, ? why the cost differance?
? will the1 /2-3/4 work on the 1 ton truck ?

I thought the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks had the same front IFS.
