View Full Version : cold start rough
I have a '92 with a 6.5 it has started running rough when first starting if it is cold. If I plug it in it's fine otherwise it runs rough for a few seconds and smokes excessively. Any ideas? I really enjoy all the tips found on this site!By the way it has 126,000 on it. Thanks, Eddie
Eddie,
Not knowing anything else its probably glow plugs are getting tired and a few bad. You can test them with a test light and test restistance of them too.
Battery + to unplugged spade on GP if light comes on circuit ok. Test resistance from spade to GP body or engine block there is a spec but I can't can't ever remember it
It could be other stuff too being a '92 so test them and ask more questions if they pass test.
Should consider new injectors if doing new GP's.
Thanks for the info Hubert I have new glow plugs and injectors ordered they should be here sometime this week. Will see if this helps if not I'll be back!

Yep, glow plugs are the likely culprit.
