I have a 95 c2500 2wd with a stock as a rock 6.5td except for the exhaust.
Three weeks ago my coolant temp gauge jumped up to 210 and stayed there for a few days. Then one day it functioned properly. The next day, back up to 210. I placed a coolant temp probe in the radiator. It also read 210. I replaced the single thermostat, yet the problem continues. some days the temp is normal for the 30 min drive to work, yet reads high on the way home. (outside air temp in the 30's and 40's).
Any thoughts? Please lean to the cheap fixes first smile.gif

So, do you think there's actually a temperature problem or do you suspect a gauge problem?

Where's the temp gauge reading when you start it cold?

I'm not aware of a temp sender mounted in the radiator on a 95

Anyways, the true location of the temp sender is on the driver's side of the engine, located towards the front. The sender is mounted in the head itself.

Jim,
I thought it might have been a gauge problem at first. The temperature gauge reads below 160 when cold, and climbs fast. For the past year or so my oil pressure will read anywhere from 40 lbs to 75 lbs. You can watch it jump. I replaced the sending unit with no change. My fuel gauge had an issue of staying at the
