Hi.
I have a 1997 GMC 6.5TD. Do I have a dual crossover? and dual thermostats? hat temp should my thermostat be. Recently purchased 195 from Orielly's, Believe they gave me the wrong gasket. What should this look like.I cannot afford the $ for upgrades etc. Is there any website that shows pics of the above. All help is welcome and appreciated. Have had problems with overheating. Had rad cleaned, pressure and flow tested last spring. Presently have 235000kms (147000miles)
Thanks in advance

Dave - I believe that 97 and newer all have the dual arrangement and the high output water pump. I have a 97 and it runs just over the 85 C mark most of the time. I plan to pull a 25' fifh with it when the weather warms up. I bought the truck last December so I don't know what the temp will be when I tow, but I'll let you know if you like. I also notice that you are in Trenton, I'm just down the road near Kingston.

DAve -
http://www.kennedydiesel.com/ go to 6.5, 6.2/6.5L Parts || Cooling Upgrades || Water Pump Kit - High Capacity Water Pump Kit , click on link and you'll get a pick of the dual thermostat crossover.

Do you have the High Capacity Thermostats? Debate on the best temp for them, but actually that won't cure an overheating condition.

Gaskets? actually don't know if they go in front or behind the thermostat, but would guess they go "on top" between the thermo and the "Hose" housing".

Good bet you have it on a '97, as I believe it was installed on late '96 ( mine of course is early '96, and parts are in the garage waiting for warmer days. )

I have a 1997 as well. I recently subscribed to
alldatadiy.com for about $25 USD per year for the first vehicle. There are line drawings of the
crossover, thermostats, gaskets etc. There is information about parts and service for all vehicle systems. For example:
