Good Day!

I'm not authorized to initiate polls (& probably wouldn't be able to figure them out if I was), so here goes the old-fashioned way.

Question: Can you make your lift pump run by putting your tranny in a gear other than park or neutral, & turning the key to crank? Please tell us:

In my 95's, you can make the lift pump run with the engine NOT running by simply putting the shift lever anywhere EXCEPT park or neutral, & turning the key to the crank position. The lift pump is powered as thought the engine was cranking, but it's not cranking because the tranny's not in park or neutral. I have found this to be EXTREMELY useful in troubleshooting lift pump problems.

I thought it would be nice for us to know for sure what years this works in.

Yes it works in my '95 also Brian and I use it to prime the fuel filter after changing also.

94 No - because it has an oil pressure sensor in the circuit. No Oil pressure, no lift pump.
I read somewhere that you could start the motor, put it in drive, turn it off and then turn the key before the oil pressure dropped. The lift pump should work. I have not tried this.

Just went out in my undies to double check this.(live in the woods, no one seen me) On this 94 you can not turn the key to the crank position unless you are in park or nuetral, the column locks you out. I have to prime with the paper clip in the relay.

1996 :

1. There is an Open Connector on left side under hood close to firewall, Jumper to 12 Volts...Runs
the lift pump.

2. Lift pump controlled by PCM and relay. If relay
fails the oil pressure sw ( in Parallel to relay )
will provide 12v to lift pump when cranking eng with starter .

3. Extra in line Lift pump activated by sw on dash will also provide Fuel Pressure ( Extra ilter/lift pump Mod)

Fuel Pressure gage on instrument panel to verify
fuel pressure..

I like gages
