Hello,
Picked up a project truck, and I am stumped. 1984 3/4 t, 2wd,T-400, AC, 6.2L. Apparently the kid who I bought it from replaced the heads, and then tried to start the truck without success. He turned it over until the starter failed to turn at all. Some smoking occurred. THis is all he could tell me.
I replaced the batts, both of them have 12.5V, replaced the starter with reman from NAPA, the old one bench tested bad, and had NAPA test new starter for insurance. When I turn the key only a single audible click can be heard. The starter does not engage at all.
Sidenote: I turned the motor by hand, and checked the voltage at the solenoid, and checked volts when key is turned over-12.5 across solenoid.
Is there anything in the system that can prevent the starter from turning over..?
