Dr.Lee, I remember back a few years ago when we used 1034 lightbulbs in tailights& turn signals.
I was at my friend shop saturday and he asked if I wouldn't mind installing a new lightbulb cabnet. I was quite surprized at the different bulbs they have, I know that a 1157 replaced the 1034, so what is a 2057 bulb for? and a 3157? and so many others that end in xx57? I see some just plug straight in O.K. But what is a guy supposed to do with all these others?
Is there some place I can find a chart?

You are correct, very confusing. But there is help, for instance from light bulb maker WWW.SYLVANIA.COM (http://www.sylvania.com/auto/carapp/) . Click on that link for an application chart.

For example, my 1984 now takes a 2057 rear taillight bulb, according to the chart.

Let me know if this helps you out for your truck.

I went to the Sylvania site, some of the things I saw really weren't convincing enough, so I borrowed a few 2057LL bulbs and put them in my 56Ford and they did make a difference just a little bit brighter, any help for that not so modern lighting system is great.
And I see that the LL stands for longer life and the 2057A has an amber tint, maybe for a front turn signal.all the others are for later model vehicles , some blue tint, some amber, and some clear.
