I may be out left in left field here but would it be at all posible to put the turbo exhaust manifold on the drivers side of a 6.2 in a 85 k30 and run the turbo that way? the reason I ask is I'm thinking of better clearence for a larger downpipe and straght shot back. or would it be easier to just run drivers drop t-case and axle?

I am thinking the same thing ... it's probably better to run drivers side drop t-case and axle. Bonus is that you can do to a late 70's Ford D60 or D44 and get high pinion at the same time = better driveshaft angle and ground clearance smile.gif

are the spring pad widths the same to bolt bolt right up or would something need adjusted? for the ford 60?

It looks that a .5" difference ... pretty easy to compensate for. Check this page out for a tonne of D60 infor including spring pad widths.

A friend ran a 3.5" exhaust from the turbo back in his mid-80s K30 without any clearance problems with the transfer case or driveshaft. How? He ran it under the cab outside the frame till it was past the transfer case, then looped it under the frame and to the back of the truck. Obviously the passenger-side fuel tank needs to go, but he put a high-cap Suburban tank in to more than make up for the loss of the 1 tank.

That's a good idea for people the don't get out and really 4x4 there trucks ... I think if I did that I would sandwich the exhaust between the frame on the first mud pit or obsticle I winched or crawled over smile.gif

Great idea thought ... you could also route it out and down the side under the rocker panel, sort of like a nerf bar. You just have to come up with some way of protecting your pant legs when you get out !!! Make a similar ornimental drivers side one to match the passanger side

Or...

Just cut a 3 to 3.5" hole in the hood and have the pipe come directly off the turbo and point up. Cut the pipe to just enough length to come above the hood about 2". On the end have the pipe flared or weld a flared piece on, then get a 2' piece of pipe with a water flapper on it and put a flare on the opposite end.

Basically you'll have a way to open the hood, by the use of a v-clamp to hold the pipes together. Remove the clamp and top pipe and open the hood. Although, not really practical, it will be nice and loud, and no ground clearance issues.

I'm gonna try it this summer on a 4x4 beater (if I ever get anything else running) .

well I can find a nv241 t-case with drivers side drop for a 32 spline turbo 400, modify the shift linkage and get a slightly better 2.72 ratio, high pinion ford 60 may even be able to reuse front driveshaft!! and possibly clock the t-case up a few degrees!!, do you think I'll have to use a remote oil filter adapter? and could I use my chevy knuckles and hubs?

I installed a 6.5 turbo set up on my 84 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 and was able to run a full 3" exhaust front to back inside the frame there is lots of ground clearance and it is not hitting anything on the body I have pictures if you would like

I currently have a SM456/241 (pas drop) combo and was thinking of routing it down between the framerail and t-case, clearance is going to be tight. My other thought was just straight off the manifold downpipe and point it down just before the t-case.

The current tranny/t-case combo will come out and go in to my K5 Jimmy project when I get a NV4500/241 and late 70's HPD60, then I will have lots of room for exhaust .... if I can ever find the diff!!!!

the banks kit uses a 3" downpipe out to 3 1/2" I'm thinking 4" all the way and maybe 4 1/2' after the muffler!!

The only thing I had to do to mine to make the exhaust fit past the t case was a 1"drop made some spacers but this was actually done for some front drive shaft clearance http:// http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid180/p8dcb3c65a503fced66353025cf461aa5/f2fa9f71.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid182/pb3cb50e387d83d14288395542d8eb88b/f2c23788.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid185/p2fed2aa0257558aa4b7106c79946fdbf/f26b0ff8.jpg

this is a link to the rest of my pictures of the truck http://www.imagestation.com/album/index.html?id=2123257034

I also meant to say that the turbo is on the standard side(Passenger) with the stock 208 t case and the ten bolt front diff I also have the part numbers of the tailpipe I used to make the down pipe. I works great lot's of power nice to drive the only thing I would really like is a 5 speed NV 4500
