1500 z71 6.5 diesel

Whats the aveage fuel mileage for a 1500 z-71 with a 6.5 td? getting about 12 mpg maybe!! An what gear ratio does that pickup come with from the factory?Turning about 2200@70mph with a 285/76/16 maxxas buckshot.

Your mileage is too low, but I think you knew that!

Should be above 16 even with 4WD gear, etc.

I don't know what axle was factory spec, but you can determine yours: jack up the rear axle so both wheels are off the ground, transmission in neutral, then paint a mark on the driveshaft near the differential. Have a helper turn a tire and COUNT ten turns, while you count the turns of the driveshaft, including fractional turns. Then divide the number you counted (driveshaft) by ten, and that will be very close to your axle ratio. If you have 3.42 gears, for example, you should have counted about 34 and 1/4 turns.

Court as The Good Doc says, too low; 12 is what I get with my K1500 towing a 12K trailer 17-18 is norm with my foot held in moderation, 14-15 running empty hard on it 75+ mph. You might want to do some searches in the 6.5 forum as well to start troubleshooting what is going on.

List your rigs specs and any mods so we can get a better idea of where to start. I'm still learning something new daily, many on The Page have more been there done that than I, but I'll share what has worked for me.

A good place to start if you haven't done so is with your RPO codes in the glove box that will tell you about trans, gears, type of diff etc. I suspect your Z-71 is pretty close to my 4x4 before I started draining my wallet and modding my beast in never ending quest for more power.
