Best case:

Leaking head gasket. You will need to remove the fuel injection high pressure lines to take the heads off. The heads are HEAVY so be prepared. Most of us would take the hood off the truck and use an engine hoist to lift the heads out.

Worst case:

Cracked cylinder block. Your truck is 9 years old, and if it has around 200k miles or more, this is actually a good excuse to put in an upgraded remanufactured engine from one of TheDieselPage.com vendors.

Let us know what you find.

Note to Readers:

Doug posted the same question in the 6.5LTD Forum, and got the same advice about the best and worst case scenarios.

That is called a Quality Assurance Confirmatory Review, successfully passed and ready for independent audit.

We call that QA/QC in construction (quality assurance/quality control).
