View Full Version : Mentioning brand names on Forum
Jim, why do folks write "code" names for brandnames on forums like this? Why do they write "F*rd" in stead of "Ford"?

maybe 'cause those are 'dirty' words? and we don't want the FCC on our backs, now do we? ;)
I still don't quite understand.
If it's a crime to mention a brand name, we need purge a few of our lawyers... let's do that anyway. :D
If it's a problem with people "googling" and just coming up with every freaking entry of a word, the web user needs to learn how to search more specifically.

I don't know why some don't type out the words Ford or Dodge. Kinda like the debate over red state or blue state... :D

There is no real reason. Some people are so brand loyal that the mere mention of the competition makes their skin crawl. The "code" names and intentional misspellings (furd, cummings, etc.) is just a stab at the "other" brand. The pet names are of the same reason, like, powerjoke. Another thing is the use of lower case proper names. Some do it with no intentions, others do it with disrespect. The word "Diesel" is the man's name, after all. As is Ford.
OK, so you're saying that people are just weird? ;)
That's a concept that I have often considered in the past :D

Weird is a pretty strong word to describe "people". Weird is a subjective label.
Maybe different is more appropriate?

I'm different, but weird? Well, then again...

WOW! I thought being called weird was a compliment. Now I'm crushed. ;)

It's a Blue State thing. Weird is politically incorrect in Kalifornia, so they need a substitute.
Remember the show "Weird Science?" I'm with RonnieJoe, weird is good, at least in the Red States.
