What is a weight distribution hitch? Do our trucks come stock with one?
What are those hitches that have two tall rods on either side of the ball?

A weight distributing hitch is the one with the long bars that attach at the sides of the ball, and on the trailer tongue. It is pinned into your stock hitch receiver just like a "regular" ball adapter. They are not included (normally) with the truck or trailer. You need to purchase one to suit your needs (if you need one, of course). They are made in different configurations, and can be quite costly.
The long bars provide spring force to transfer some of the trailer tongue weight onto the tow vehicle front axle by "torquing" the pivot point at the ball.
Hope that answers your questions.
Is there a separate function that helps with trailer sway? Are weight distributing hitches usually different than ones that control sway or are both functions built into the same hitch?

Sway control is seperate of the weight distribution hitch. Although most weight distribution hitches have attachment points for the sway control. Good luck. John
