We're looking at a 99 30' Keystone, weight 10,050# GVWR. I'd be towing it ~ 400 miles setting it up and living out of it during the week for about two years with a work asignment. Great looking camper, lots more room, (Has a big slide out, tall ceilings) good price. My truck is a basically stock '96, 8600# series 2500 w/ 3.73 rear. Do you think I'm pushing my luck? I have a 96 dealer brochure and it says my truck's 5th wheel capacity is 8500#. I don't have any problem at all with my current 5th weighing 8K. My wife loves this camper but I'm reluctant because of the weight.
Thanks
Jim

If you are only making one trip and then parking it, you can probably get it there. I would not attempt to travel with it on a regular basis. You will have to take it slow and easy and travel with the trailer dry (tanks empty) to keep the weight down, but you can probably make there in one piece.

Wife won. We bought the camper. I'll just drive easy and take my time. Jelico pass is the only bad spot. Empty this new camper weighs ~ 8700 #. Leaving the tanks empty and the extra stuff for another trip is a good idea. Who knows, when I pull it home in a couple years, it might be behind a DMAX. smile.gif

Returned yesterday from taking the camper to Oak Ridge. No problems. Temps went to 220 twice, fan kicked in, (startled wife) and came down, stayed at 210 or less 95% of the time. Got about 12 mpg with camper. I was pleased.

I will never forget the first time my fan kicked on in my 93 6.5. I thought it was going to blow up. Almost hit the brakes when I realized what it was.
