We're thinking about the purchase of a new travel trailer and I'm doing my best to understand the 57 variations of abbreviation that begin with the letter "G". I've noticed that Chevy reduces the tow rating of the Suburban if it has 4WD. Please explain. Thanks.

Spindrift,
It's all about weight. In general, the vehicle you purchase can tow, stop, and manuever only so much weight (Tow vehicle + Trailer + supplies + people). Every 1 pound you add to your tow vehicle, that's 1 pound less your trailer can weigh or carry, like people, water, food, clothes, etc. So, when you add 4 wheel drive to a vehicle you are adding weight(400lbs?)that means you can tow 400lbs less than a vehicle with 2 wheel drive. That is a pretty basic explanation, but you get the point....right? Hope this helped.

I think the tow rate for the 4WD is reduced because of the weight that 4WD add to the vehicle and that weight is subtracted from "towable" weight.
I have same vehicle as you with a 4:10 rear and safely pull 8,400 lbs

SFD,
What's the GVW rating of your Fleetwood? We're looking at a Cougar 304 right now at the GVW is 9600.
