Fifth wheel purchase advice...help!

Hi guys;

I know, I've been "missing in action" for sometime now...been pretty busy.

I still have the DMAX, but I'm in the market for a fifth wheel "toy hauler" camper to pull the bikes. I won't actually be pulling it with the Chevy; I recently bought a Peterbilt 379 w/550 hp Cat and 18 spd Eaton (long story, awesome truck!) that I'll use to pull the new trailer. Those of you that remember my DMAX will understand why... :rolleyes:

Anyway, I've looked at a Four Winds and a couple of KZ's...both nice rigs. Any advice from you RV folks? I'm a definite newbie when it comes to these things!

It is good to see your quest of toys has not subsided.

If you are looking for a toy hauling trailer only, I cannot help you. But if you want an NICE RV that can also haul toys, then I would check out www.horizonsrv.com (http://www.horizonsrv.com) They are a custom build shop that will make exactly what you want. Their RV's are top quality, and you can get everything the way you want it, but they are not inexpensive.

I have owned a regular RV 5th wheel from them for several years and have no regrets at all. I do not pull a toy hauler, but have seen them building several of them at the facory.

Check out the Weekend Warrior toyhaulers. Funtime RV in Cleburne, Tx deals with them. The SLC models are really nice and the big water/holding tanks along with the Generator and gas station make it handy for dry camping. AND, the 3 axles gives it a great ride.

You can also pick up a copy of Trailer Life magazine at your local news stand. This mag has many advertisements and product evals for trailers that pull double duty has a toy hauler and a place to lay your head after a hard day of riding.....bikes, four wheelers, etc.

Have owned 2 SunnyBrook's with the last one being a 30' fifth wheel, but doesn't haul toys. You might just check their website at they have just come out with a 36' toyhauler an it looks pretty sharp.

Thanks for the responses...I went with the Four Winds 35SRV after all; best fit/finish/value I could find. Hope it holds up...I'm tough on my toys!

Not sure what all you have in mind. Saw the Harldleys on your picture page. Anyway, a living quarter horse trailer could be a good starting point. They are goose necks rather than 5th wheel which I think makes them a little more ridgid.

When looking for a LQ gooseneck, many of them can start with a shell and add in the stuff you need. They don't like to move the plumbing but are able to adjust most other stuff. You could get a horse trailer and just have the horse area made without windows and dividers.
