MP what axle did you end up using in the project? I know you were looking for a 9.5 14 bolt but a dana 60 or a 9in would have been nice.

After searching and waiting much to long for a rebuildable core, I bought a GM 9-1/2" 14-bolt semi-float 6-lug axle from Spalding Auto in Spokane, Washington. This was a perfectly good used axle that had 3.73 gears and a G80. Of course, all the guts were removed and filled with new 3.42 gears, an Eaton Posi, and all new bearings and seals at Randy's R&P.
Now, I need to decide what to do about brakes. I've found just one company that produces a disk brake conversion kit for this axle..... More money than I want to spend (about $1200). I could use the 13" drums.... I dunno....

I thought I'd pass on some useful information about axle selection sent to me by automotive author Jim Allen. Jim writes for several of the truck and 4WD magazines, and has published a number of related books. MP
