What kind of block do you get if you by a new engine from your local GM dealer? Is it the new high nickel GED block?

Howdy
I did allot of research and according to sources at Navistar, AMGeneral, and GM all new Goodwrench blocks are new GEP manufacture. The only exception would be if you somehow found one that had been sitting in the parts room for years collecting dust. When I got mine I verified the logo stamped in the valley.

What are the better sources for new or re-man long blocks from GEP/AMG?

I'm looking at replacing the 6.5TD in my Hummer and I can't seem to find many sources for complete long blocks.

Thanks!

try John at Kennedy Diesel. He would have been my #1 choice if he was local for me....
Good luck

You can also try Peninsular Engine in MI. They have stock, 18:1 engines, and mega HP engines.

On the new blocks is it still necessary to have a stud girdle and/or splayed mains.

If you have the engine apart and Warrenty is not an issue then every little bit helps. I didn't do either to my block cause it was along block and everything was factory sealed and new. If I was rebuilding from a bare block then I would do both.
