windshield wipers

my sons '87 Blazer had been sitting for 12 months when we started it up the wipers ran continuously. the delay works but the wipers will not shut off. is this a problem with the column mounted switch or is it the wiper motor itself. Thanks for any advise John

I have the same problem and use a very specific
method to shut them off. I haven't done any checks
yet but the problem must be in my switch.

My way of shutting the wipers off is that I put
the switch in the middle position. When the wipers
are going down and close in on the bottom position,
I give the switch a "push" to the left and let it
bounce back to the "off" position.

I know it sounds strange but until I find the time
and energy to get a new switch, it actually works.

I had an old Pontiac that did this. The wipers would park in the "off" and then start again. I turned the key off while they were parked and then they stayed off till I turned them on again. It was a pain if I was driving it though.
