Is it possible to put a trans temp gauge on a ZF-6 transmission? If so where does the temp probe go?

thanks for the help dmaxmule

If there is a tranny cooler, you can put a sensor in between the line and trans housing. Not sure if you could tap the pan on the manual trannies.

There may be a way to put one where the cover for the PTO output is. I guess thats where some people mount a cooler anyway, so maybe you can put a temp probe there. Dont know if it would actually make any contact with the trans fluid if you just put it through that cover though. Just thinking out loud here, been kind of thinking about the idea of a temp gauge also.

When my dealer put my cooler in there was info for temp gauge install. Only one problem no gauge came with the kit. ??????

Isn't the zf a 6 speed manual? How do you install a cooler on a manual trans, does the kit come with a pump?

Fast cooler makes a trans cooler for the zf-650. It mounts where the PTO cover is. You can put one or two coolers on the zf-650.

Oh I see now. It's not like the auto trans coolers, it's actually a large heat sink with extra fluid capacity. Interesting, it says it has an outlet for temp sensor, so I guess the answer to the original post is yes.

I know the coolers have a place for a temp probe, but i was wondering if there was a place for a probe on the actual transmission.

I have installed a tranny temp probe on a ZF-6 in a PSD...Just drill and tap the drain plug, when its time to service fluid just pull the probe out drain fluid, re-install probe, fill and enjoy.
