Mdrag - one other thing i am interested in is the high idle switch - my truck will be parked outside this winter and i am concerned about it warming up enough to defrost the windshield before driving - maybe the high idle would help that for faster warm ups. it gets awefull chilly up here in minnesota in the middle of winter. i haven't found the info on that on your site other than in your photos. my e mail address is cbrowen@comcast.net any info on that would be great. thank you in advance

Just Fuelin' Around,

IMHO, the BESTEST instructions ;) :D for the LB7 high idle (and '01 - '02 overdrive lockout switch) can be found at KENNEDY DIESEL'S TECH TIPS (http://www.kennedydiesel.com/dmaxtechtips.html).

Ditto info on Kennedy's site.
But instead of installing a switch, you can wire Fast Idle without any switches. See previous posts at :

Also, while you're pulling wires through firewall, consider installing the GM Factory Overdrive Lockout Switch 15174508 at the same time.
This info is also available at link above, and's Kennedy's site.

I've thought about revising to a 'switchless' high idle install. However, consider that you could use the high idle switch as a 'valet mode' switch. By leaving the high idle switch 'on' you can limit the performance of the Dmax in appropriate situations. The engine runs normally up to about 2000-2200 RPM, and then starts to stumble and hesitate. I've never set a DTC when I've forgotten to turn off the switch, and sooner or later you will forget to turn off the high idle before driving away...

At least one vendor (http://www.pacificp.com/cgi-bin/cat/high-idle.html) touts this feature as a marketing ploy for their high idle kit... Neat gimmick

Here's a previous post (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=007173) about this feature (near the end of the thread).

Yikes!!!

Did I read that Vendor's (http://www.pacificp.com/cgi-bin/cat/high-idle.html) price correctly ??? $299.00 !!!

I just purhased an ECM connector contact yesterday for $2.50 to add the high idle feature. I already have the wire .. If I splurge and buy a switch it might end up costing me $10.

jbplock,

Where did you purchase the terminals? I thought about going to the dealer. Thanks Brian

I used the following part numbers referenced in Mdrag's writeup (http://www.kennedydiesel.com/docs/HIGH%20IDLE%20INSTALL%20FINAL.htm) on JK's website and called several local dealers until I found one who had them.

Terminal GM part #12084913 (5 per package) or GM part #12084912 (10 per package)

All said they could order them. The dealer I purchased from had a GM service kit/assorment of terminals so I was able to buy individual terminals.

I installed my switch here for my high idle. Got the switch @ Radio Shack.
