I bought a set of Yokohama Geolandar AT=2's about 3 weeks ago and these are a great looking tire. However they are really squishy feeling or unstable. When i change lanes on the freeway there is this weird feeling like the side walls are flexing too much. I am currently worried about trying to pull our travel trailer with th tires feeling this way. Has anyone else had this experience with these tires? What tires do you recomend for towing/all terrain?

Thanks!!

What's your tire pressure??

Ive had the fronts from 45-65psi ( the door says 50 psi ) and the rears from 45-80psi making changes in 5psi increments.

Whats the tire say for max pressure?

wyliehd

The tires say 80psi max which is what the door says for the rear tires as well. The firestones ( which i didnt think were very good ) were allot better than these tires are at this point.

Wylie,

Are they the 245 75 16 E rated Geolander AT IIs? They kinda looked like a nice tire but if you're sayin the Firestones are better, then they're off my look at list.

They are LT245/75/16 Load Range E. They are rated for 3042lbs at 80psi. They are a great looking tire and did well in the rain but i want the solid feeling back that the stones had. discounttiredirect.com ( where i purchased the tires from ) is recomending the Michelin LTX/AT or BF Goodrich All Terrain TA/KO. If they will just let me return the tires instead of exchange i may look at the BFG Commercial LT's that Sams has for around $100 each.

I've got BFG ATs on mine now. Much better than the Firestones IMHO. I was looking at the BFG commercial tractions at one place but was thinking that the 2 ply sidewall might result in the same feeling that you're getting with the Yokohama's?

Do you do very much towing with those tires? Which BFG's do you have?

Get the Michelins

I've got the All Terrain TA KOs in 245 75 16 E. I don't do much towing at all but they're a good bit stiffer in the sidewall compared to the stock Firestones that I hated.

First Diesel - which Michelins do you have?

I don't know about the Yokohamas, but for tire pressure generally with 245/75-16 I like 67 front 72 rear on my crew cab short bed.

I will try those pressures to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks!!

On this truck I'm still on the stock tires. The Michelins I've had are the LTX and then you can pick your tread pattern. They make 3.

A/S
M/S
A/T

I had the M/S, a nice compromise tire.

There are quite a few people here with them on their trucks. Do a search and you'll see almost everyone that has them has been happy. I can only remember reading one negative.

Wyliehd,

Please let us know if the pressures make a difference for you.

I have adjusted the pressures and will see if it makes a difference tomorrow on the way to work. This is what i received back from Yokohama after asking the same question i did on the forum.

If normally you do not use the bed of the truck you can run 50 psi front and rear. However, when you load the bed of the truck you will need to increase the pressure to 80 psi. If this does not solve your problem there is a 30-day trial on the Geolandar A/T+II. I hope this information is helpful. Thank you for contacting Yokohama Tire Corporation.

I have driven the past two days with the tires at 67psi in the front and the rears at 72psi and it has not made a difference.
Oh well, it was woth a try. The michelins will be on there way on Monday.

Wyliehd,

I was hoping that you'd have better results to report :( Since you're getting the Michelin's which did you order? I thought the specs on the XPS Traction looked pretty strong considering the Yokahama's are now off my look at list. smile.gif

I went with the LTX/MS.

wyliehd, how are the Michelins treating you?
What size did you get?

Yesterday I had a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers (265/75/16E) put on and am experiencing the same thing that you had with the Geolanders. Feels like driving on jello. :(

I ended up canceling the order for the Michelins. I was out of town for 2 weeks and then my wife had to have surgery and that kind of tied up the monies for a bit. discounttire.com would not work with me on getting the tires swapped out unless I paid full price for the Michelins and waited to get a refund after the Geos got back to them. I couldn

I have YOKO's in 285/75's on M&T Classics.

I have ZERO Complaints.

I haul tile and building materials, sometimes 2K-3K lbs in bed plus I do tow a 7K lb boat a couple times during the year.

I have no problems or complaints.

To each there own ;)

I run the Yokohama A/T II on my truck and pull a 30' TT (7500 lbs)without any complaints. I ran 130 miles this past winter in a blizzard in 4wd. They were great! These are the best tires I have had on any of my past three trucks. I have about 5k on them and had them rotated today. They seem to be wearing ok. I keep the pressure at 60psi and 80 psi when towing. They are quiet and the treads clean well in the snow. I do not have any side "roll" feeling with them. Maybe you got a bad batch, who knows. I have lot of friend running the Yo's w/o any complaints. Good Luck.

I have the Geolander AT+II 285 75's on stock rims. I tow a 10,000 lbs toy trailer with no complaints. I usually run 70 in the rear when towing and about 45-47 empty. I run 50 in the fronts all the time. I do this because the stock rims are really too narrow for this tire and I am trying to avoid premature wear in the middle of the tire. So far so good, they've been a great tire, my juiced Dmax has a hard time breaking them loose. Lucky for me a good friend works for Yokohama factory so I get a killer hookup.

HD Neil;

I have 285 Nitto's on my truck and I couldn't be happier with them. What pressure are you running them at?

Hey Jim. This is kinda funny because yesterday on pickuptruck.com I asked you if you were running stock or aftermarket wheels with those tires.

Anyways, I've tried everything between 45-80psi with hardly any noticeable difference at all in the sidewall stiffness. However, the tires have been on the truck now for 1

I know this is alittle different but i have a Z-71 with the 285/75/16's and i also experienced the squishyness at first. Was very weird and make me very concerned, even on a 1/2 ton. I think it lasted a few tanks and it went away. I currently have alittle oveer 20000 on the tires and have at least that left and tehy are great!! If I ever get a D/A these are what i will put on them!!

My 93 dooley has had a set of Micks ltx/msS on for 62k. They are the best tire out there IMHO. I also have a set of Liberator 16s on my fiver. I am told that they are made by Michelin for Super Wally World. They have a good looking tread and are very solid. My trailer handles a bunch better than with the Goodyear crap. They were to soft in the side wall. On the Micks be sure to use a water based dressing to keep them looking good. A petrol base will leach out the natural oils in the rubber causing them to weather faster. The side walls on the old 93 are showing cracks as I didn't do what I just said. The tread has maybe another 5000 miles to the wear bars but the side walls will be the determining factor to a change. They have been good. Oh forgot to mention that my trailer is 36ft and 12,500 plus road loaded. The tire pressure in the rear duals have always been 55lbs and the fronts 60. The whole rig handles very soildly. The wear has been even with 5000 mile rotations and balances since new. I am very anal about tire pressures. I have found that the above combination with these particular tire is ok for me. I will try this with the tires that were delivered on my new Dmax and see how it does. The slightest bit squirrly and I'll adjust till I find the best running pressures for wear and go with that.
Sorry about the long post.
