Every time I used my truck I hold my breath when I have to put weight on the tail gate. Isn't it about time for the new cables to be available at the dealers?

Anyone been contacted yet?

If those cables let go and crease my tail gate, I know it will not do any good but I am going to get agile, mobile, and hostile.

Thanks,

I just had both cables replaced after the tailgate hit the bumper last saturday I called the dealer and they told me to bring it in and it was fixed while I waited took about 20 min.

You can still do what a lot of us have; forget those cheesy cables and get a set of these (http://www.vrstraps.com).

I received my notice and got the new cables installed. I wish I had measured the old cables because it appears to me the new cables are larger than the old. It could be my imagination I think they look larger in diameter to me.

The new cables appear to be under equal tension though which pleases me.

The dealer replaced the cables today when I had the truck in. There is actually two different numbers. Is one cable different then the other? The numbers are 88980509 and 88980510.

Thats what I was guessing. I would have to look to see if there is any difference between the two.

Just had tailgate cables replaced by dealer last week. After getting home thought I would test new cables with a magnet.......Stainless Steel does not draw. Magnet goes clunk as if I had it to a railway track, what gives? Thought I would phone GM's 1-800 shoot me # Well after a couple of days they phoned me back & said the cables are only coated with Stainless Steel. Sorry but I have never heard of this type of cable & if it is true how long before this cable also starts to rust away? It only took 12 to 14 months for the galvanized cables to break.

Dave,

See Mdrag's post in the following thread ...

replacement cables are NOT STAINLESS STEEL (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=001707;p=1#0000 04)

Had my tailgate cables replaced last week. They had a little tag on them "Made in China" Wonder where the recalled ones were made ?
