View Full Version : Labor Time to Change Shocks
Hello, I'm getting my 2004.5 3500 D/A 4x4 outfitted for towing my new Alpenlite 5er.
Dealer replaced stock shocks with Rancho RSX9000s all the way around. I wanted the in cab remote control for the shocks but that part was backordered, so dealer just installed the four shocks now-- I don't know how long that takes. Dealer charged me for 4 1/2 hours to change four shocks. Comments? Thanks. --wheeler

I'm not the swiftest wrench around but I replaced my stock shocks with Bilsteins in about an hour and a half. That included time spent figuring out how to do it, and I did it without a lift. 4 1/2 hours is WAY excessive!
Thanks Dodger, that's kind of what I thought. The work order says "installed shocks and controller" but the controller is not in stock yet-- maybe they charged me once for the whole job, or if the Ranchos are remote controlled there must be some connection between all four shocks and the dash area, maybe they ran those connections. I'll find out today. Thanks for input, Dodger. --wheeler

1.5 hours and two beer
Replaced mine on 04 LLY, took about 45 min took my time. Used a lift, own a repair shop, used Monroe Reflex, made a decided difference, much better control of rear axle. One of the GM rear shocks @ 5000 miles was dead, would only extend 70% on its own. bob.....

Carco,
How do you like the Monroe Reflex shocks? I've looked at the Rancho 9000's, RSX and the Bilsteins, but they're too pricey. How much were the Monroe's. I have a buddy that ran these shocks on his S-10 and really liked them.

Bring it to my house and I will do it for you. The total cost to you will be the shocks and 2 beers per shock. It will take a little longer if you bring cheap beer

1BADDMAX, I do not know how the other shocks are but, I do know the Monroe Reflex's are a big improvement over my original factory shocks!! Just back from a 152 mile cruise to the Preble County Pork Festival, mostly 2 lane roads, decent ride and decent wheel control. bob........
