drive shaft spline grease

I keep seeing articals about greasing the drive shaft spline.

Q is this in reference to the one piece or two piece or both drive shafts?

Q What grease should be used on the spline?

Q Will the tranny oil pore out when the spline is removed from the tranny (or is it the back end of the transfer case)? late at night and cold.

I ended up using a high end marine bearing grease and it seems to be working so far. I have about 1500+ miles on it. It had the same color and consistency as the one from GM. I was told the GM product was $80 a pint. I originally took truck in to dealer to get it done and they used the fluid for transfer case, but it didn't work.
