Merry CHRISTmas to all,

My Chevy 2500HD (Dmax/All) batteries have 34,000 miles on 'em and I'm noticing that it takes just a little longer to crank 'er over. These are the original factory batteries. I'm taking a long cold trip in two weeks, and I'm thinking that it might be worth my while to change 'em out now.
Question: Good idea?
Best Battery (Name/type) to consider:
THANKS for your assistance.

if all else is fine i wouldnt touch them... I now have 51k on the factory batteries and still no problems... I see a lot of talk about bad batteries, but would think most of them are just fine...

From all I've seen with OEM Delco batteries, they die young or live forever. If you really want to replace them, Optima batteries are the best IMO. If you don't want to drop three bills on those, but still want top of the line batteries, get some Interstates. I have ye to see a bad Interstate battery, of coarse I've never seen a million dollers either...

Optima yellow tops ;)

Worth every penny IMHO. You cant do anything in your truck with dead batteries.

I've had a Delco last me 18 months and anohter last me 9 years. Its not always "Only the good die young" tongue.gif

To save you some time, Auto Zone carries Optima batteries, probably the best price you'll get...
You may consider running Red tops though. If I wasn't running a bunch of electronic gear, I would run reds..
Here's a link to Optima's site...

I bought a pair of spiral wound gel cell batteries of very similar design to Optima's at Sam's club, approx $100 each. Someone posted that Sam's was discontinuing them - I checked two weeks ago when I was at Sam's and was told they were NOT being discontinued. The batteries I bought had a Champion label, and they now have a NASCAR label.

Here is a LINK (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=006442) to a previous discussion on Optima batteries.

Sam's Club is selling Champion XLT (http://www.exide.com/products/automotive/exide_select_orbital.html) spiral wound, leak proof batteries @ $99.xx They appear to be a similar design compared to the Optima. Two sizes are offered, and the more powerful is 770 CCA/1000 CA/ 95 RC. 36 mo free relacement/108 mo pro rated. The brochure I have lists 1000 CA, 950 CA on the website specs.

Here is why I like the yellows over the red tops for my trucks. (From the Optima site)
