OK Guys here is a tire pressure question.

See my signature for vehicle description.

With my trailer hooked up I am at a GCW of 20,400 #'s. I have 4600 #'s on the drive axle and 6080 #'s on the rear axle.

I am trying to determine optimum tire pressure for my tires.

I think I've got the front figured out to 70 #'s. Is it as simple as dividing the drive axle weight by 4 thus 1520 #'s per tire?

One of the members had a suggestion a while ago that I think is worth repeating- air up as close as you can to what you think you should use, then take a carpenters crayon and put orange stripes across each tire tread, then run a little. If it wears in the middle first, you're too high and if the edges wear first you're too low.

FWIW, last time I checked for a long pull with the old steel trailer (prob. 10 or 11,000 trailer weight) I want to say that 70 psi was about right for the rears on my 94 dually.
