You guys that wondered what happened to the scenario on the free tires,Well there on 215/85R-16E.Got em all changed by 11:00 a.m. The trick is you have to have the logo 3500 HD on the door,if ya dont they can get away with the D rated tires. If ya got the HD after the 2500 or 3500 then you get the E-rated tires. They goofed mine up & put the D-rated on my truck when in deed it was a 3500 HD.Gotta love it $1200 worth of tires after 28,000 on the first set compliments of GM.Hammer smile.gif smile.gif

I'm a little confused... You say you must have the 3500HD emblem to get the load E rated tires. Yet the truck in your sig is a 3500 D/A. The 3500's and 3500HD's are two entirely different trucks. To the best of my knowledge GM hasn't made a 3500HD with Duramax True or not??? Care to help clarify? smile.gif

Code: XEC
$0.00

LT215/85R16E OOR BW FRT/RR/SPR
Code: XEF

See the code numbers? Check your glove box.......

Deric M, I dont know alot about it except what my truck service manager told me.I have a 3500 Duelly & they said that it did qualify for the tires so they wrote it up & replaced them today without any cost to me.I had D's on it & they replaced them with E's. I dont know what they based there case on & Im not going to guestion them when they hand me new tires.Hammer smile.gif smile.gif

Hey Hammer

How about a dealer name/number in case my service guy blaks. I could tell them to ask your guy where they found the info about this.

BTW, what tires did they give you??

The determination came directly from GM.Not Cust. service either, they dont have the power to OK something when its wrong. All I know is they contacted GM directly & bam there comes a new set of tires on my truck.Ya gotta love it.What they based it on it looks like the determination between the 3500 & the 3500 HD. What gets me is I still see D-range on some of the trucks identical to mine.Im talking about on the dealer lots. They seem to be a mixed bag on them. Some with D, and some with E,Why,Ask GM. smile.gif smile.gif

It sounds to me like your dealer convinced GM that you had a 3500HD (would be old body style truck) with D rated tires, and that is why they ponied up for the new tires (their mistake, your gain). It is becoming very common for people to confuse the 3500HD and the 3500 since the SRW version of the 3500 is the 2500HD. A real 3500HD with D rated tires would be a potential hazard. Your truck doesn't really have 3500HD emblems on the doors does it?

Isn't the HD moniker discontinued? I know the pricing sites still show it, but a well-known site with industry news has shown for months the following under start up dates for 2003 models:

Silverado 3500HD models Discontinued

Silverado 3500HD w/ Special Equipment & Paint Discontinued

Silverado 1500/2500/3500 Pickup Reg/Ext/Crew Cab 6/24/02

Silverado 1500/2500/3500 Pickup w/ Special Equipment & Paint TBD

Sierra 3500HD models Discontinued

Sierra 3500HD w/ Special Equipment & Paint Discontinued

Sierra 1500/2500/3500 Pickup Reg/Ext/Crew Cab 7/22/02

Sierra 1500/2500/3500 Pickup w/ Special Equipment & Paint TBD

I am not sure.

TxDoc, Hammer's truck is a 2001. Yes, it seems that for 2003 the next step up from the 3500 is the new medium duty trucks.

With the exception of Hammer his fell into a blunder on GM part by documentation stating he should have E rated tires on his truck, and didn't get them till now, has anyone else contacted the dealer?

I was talking to my buddy (02 Dually) about this who has D rated tires and didn't know it till today when I told him, you know the spare rubber I scoffed from you when you gave me your rim? Well, I'm giving it back it is a D rated tire...... tongue.gif We are discussing it and he seems to think it was a supply and demand thing,NAH was my opinion....I looked at his door sticker and yup down came the front axle rating.......Under further discussion it then dawns on ME his truck is not a four wheel drive.......Mine is, and I got E rated tires... Chances are I could plow, hence more weight on the axle......Same could be with the 2500HD......So now begins the poll.....And I believe the answer to this mystery.......Going over the post on both threads the ones bragging about GOT "E'S" all have 4x4 in their sig......Could it be????????

I just checked mine after reading this post and my 2002 2500HD D/A two wheel drive has the "E" rated Bridgestones. They may have the "E" rating but they suck when there is standing water. Hydroplaning is ferocious.

The last time I checked, there was no such thing as a 3500HD. Just a plain and simple 3500.

Now....there is a 1500HD and a 2500HD.

Maybe someone grabed the wrong tires from the wrong bin. Could happen.

The old 3500HD was discontinued (stopped being built) in June. Its production was overlapped with its current replacement the new GMT560 4500 series truck that started production in January. The old 3500HD was the old C/K style body while the new 4500 is all new and is avaliable with a Duramax. The 3500HD had a GVWR of 15,000lbs. The new 4500 is 16,000lbs. Both of these trucks come with 19.5's from the factory so I still don't know how a dealer could mistake your 3500 as a HD.

I have been watching these posts to see what comes out of them before I approach my dealer with getting new tires out of GM. It appears to me that for what ever reason GM makes the "E" tires optional and more than likely the "D" tires are standard. I have checked my window sticker and it does show "D" rated tires.
Another way to tell what tires your truck came from the factory with is to open the drivers door and look at the 2"x3" white sticker right below the actual door latch and it will give you all of your trucks information like what month and year the truck was produced, paint codes etc.. and will also give you the tire size that the truck came from the factory with. Mine shows "D" rated there also and born on 9/01.
I suspect if it doesn't show "E" rated tires then you probably won't be able to trade up from "D" to "E" on GM's dime. At least thats the way my luck runs.
just my .02 cents.

Timberline,

While looking at the sticker on the door you will notice that when they put the D'S on they drop the front axle rating to match. So the only logical explanation is when a 4x2 the line is set up for D tire install......I don't buy the "Hey MAC what tires are we gonna stick on the dually's today" ?"D'S"? "Print the stickers".......Or ,"Is there more D'S then E'S in the bin"?There has to be a legit reason why.....If you would what are the other numbers present for GAW"R" and GVW on your 4x2...........Whether or not they agree, I say they should all have "E'S".....

Does it have anything to do with the on road and off road tire options? My 3500 had E's but they were the off road GY Wangler ATS tires. Are all the trucks equiped with on road tires D's and off road E's?
