Well, I was home in Florida over the holidays and there were a *lot* of diesel trucks running around down there, what with the Snowbird season in full swing and a lot of trailers towed South. I saw many DMaxes, too. Check out the tires on this Dually!

I saw a lot of rigs running those rims and tires while I was down in Miami during Christmas...pretty cool :D

I first saw the truck, then the owner and sidled over to talk about it. He pulls a 6,000 boat with it. I asked if he had any clearance problems with the 22.5" wheels and he first said "no." I called bull-hockey on him because I know people with 285s on 16" wheels are having difficulty, and he laughed and said that he *did* jack up the torsion bars and "move the front bumper out about an inch." What I thought was pretty cool were the four-foot long traction bars (you can just see the right one in the third photo). He said that axle-wrap was nearly pulling the spline shaft out of the tranny. He had no performance add-ons. I showed him my Juice box and he seemed very interested. I also invited him to the Dieselpage, so we may find out more.
Hmmmm, I see ten lug nuts too.

Sorry but I don't get it. What's the purpose of wheels that cause you to have to move the bumper to make them fit??? Looks??? Not on my truck, thank you very much. I have better things to spend my money on than wheels and tires like that. And how about the effect on the ride??

I got the impression that it wasn't about looks only, FirstDiesel. Those rims and tires are now medium to heavy truck items and I think his objective was long-haul and durability. Many owners who work their DMaxes, like Maverick, have gone to 19.5" heavy duty rims and tires. I was impressed by the posture of the rig and how those giant rollers filled up the wheelwells! Still running the original Firestone 245s on 16" PYOs on my truck, and will only be going to 265 Michelins on the stock rims in the Spring. tongue.gif

I love my 19.5's just fine. 22.5's is a little big.

I know several older HD's with 19.5s that got 60 thousand + miles on with trucks weighing 13 to 15K all the time so there are some benefits. I have also gotten over 100k on 22.5 steer tires on my big truck loaded 80k.

Wonder how he got somebody to reflash his PCM so the speedo and tranny would work correctly? Not to mention bye bye warranty. And I may be a bit un-educated in towing, but 6000lbs ain't that much to require those huge wheels....they look nice though. smile.gif
