I am looking at 5th wheel and tongue pull trailers presently. My question is what tongue weight is max for the factory receiver hitch and the factory tires? Same question for the fifth wheel setup.

Thanks.

My 3500 is rated for 12000 tongue pull and 15100 on a 5er.

Your 2500HD CC/SB is rated 12000 on the tongue and 15600 on the 5er. Assuming you have the Allison.

Amazing, huh?? I get the bigger truck and you get the bigger tow rating!!

Anyway, my new trailer is rated to 15000 pounds and is a tag. I decided I really wanted the storage under a cap on the truck for times we weren't towing the trailer. My trailer with 2 cars and my gear should come in about 11500. I towed it empty and just a little with the 2 cars in it yesterday and it pulls like a dream.

The 2500HD hitch max tongue weight is 1,000 lbs. for a regular hitch and 1,500 lbs. for a weight distribution type of hitch.

The rear GAWR is 6,084 lbs. which is more than you'll ever need. Example: my rear axle weight is actually 2,740 lbs. with a full tank and driver (me). Conceivably, you could tow a 5er with a kingpin weight of 3,344 lbs. but max kingpin weight is 3,000 lbs. for the 2500HD.

This ain't gonna happen because you'll max out on GVWR of 9,200 lbs. before then.

Example: my truck weighs 6,920 with full tank and driver. Add the weight of a 5er hitch of say 200 lbs comes to 7,120 lbs. Subtract that from your GVWR of 9,200 and that leaves you 2,080 lbs. for the max kingpin weight of a 5er.

So in my case, I've got to stay under 2,000 lbs on the 5er kingpin weight and advise the wife she's gonna need to lose about 30 lbs. or we'll be over GVWR. smile.gif

RVGuy,
Seems to me, if you advise the wife to lose 30 lbs, you'll be able to add another 10 - 15 lbs of pin weight for the head she just knocked off your shoulders.
