Is the new Ford transmission really an Allison?

No, it's called the Torqshift. However, the features list is a virtual copycat of the Allison 1000 found in our GM trucks. Other than very slightly different gear ratios, it supposedly behaves exactly like an Allison 1000.

Another big "minus" is when you manually put the Ford tranny in a lower gear and come to a stop, you start out in that gear. I couldn't believe it either until I test drove one.

Trip, some would actually consider that a plus. Sometimes I would like to be able to start in 2nd with my alli. Especially in ice and snow.

Ditto Max Power. After I installed my Factory Pushbutton ODLO, I had thoughts into installing a First Gear Lockout. That would be nice during winter driving. Never followed through with investigation if this was possible.

Max Power - Thanks for opening my eyes. I'm so used to fair weather conditions, I never considered 2nd or 3rd gear starts in slippery conditions, etc. Makes perfect sense.
