View Full Version : Motor mounts for engine swap?

For those of you that have swapped a 6.5 (or 6.2) into another vehicle, what did you use for motor mounts? Stock factory mounts? Fabricated?

Just curious what the best route would be.

No offense but you need to be a little more specific as to what vehicle you are installing the 6.2/5
It was a bolt in for my 75.

If you're converting a 6.2 in a truck that was originally equipped with the 6.2 you will just use the 6.2 mounts on the 6.5. the 6.2 and 6.5 share the same mounts and you can bolt everything from your 6.2 onto the 6.5. The 6.5 is externally almost identical in size and bolt placement to the 6.2.

Just treat your 6.5 like it was a new 6.2 replacement engine.

Sorry, I guess that was sort of obscure.

Those people that have swapped into something other than a GM vehicle -- Jeep, Toyota Land Cruiser, etc.

I used mounts from Advance Adapters. They have generic GM engine mounts. The mounts for the 6.2/6.5 are the same as for the small block and big block gassers. Novak also has engine mounts, but I have found that the parts from Advance seem to be much better built. I have Novak mounts on the small block in my CJ, and I'm pulling those in favor of a set from Advance because they are starting to twist.

Gas engine mounts should work fine, but we'll be discovering the engine mount situation before long, as we embark on a 6.5 fuel economy series.... We'll be installing a modified (for fuel economy) 6.5 in a 1972 Chevy El Camino. :D

I wasn't sure if the added weight of the diesel would be a factor. Looking forward to that El Camino project, Jim. I'm looking at swapping a 6.5T into a Mini Cooper! :eek:
