my 1983 6.2L diesel was rebuilt 20K ago. Only teh bottom end was done and the heads were untouched. The truck runs great but I have to ad a quart of oil around 1500 miles. Does this sound normal?...Thanks..Leon.

I'll try to type better. About every 1500 miles I have to add oil. Usually a quart. Does this sound normal?

1 qt. every 1500 miles doesn't sound bad. Some will use 1 qt. at 1000 miles. Unless you have visible leaks, it is difficult to tell where it is going.

Oil brands can have an effect on oil consumption. If you are not using an oil rated for compression engines (C*-4), it will use more oil in most cases, and may cause problems that lead to failures. Different brands can use more/less in different engines.

What oil are you using?

I use 15W40 for diesel engines. I'm thinking of switching to Amsoil.
