One piece drive line taking forever!

My trucks at the dealer for the one piece drive line intallation. Service writter just called and
said the part did'nt show up today but should
be in tommorow. That will be three days without my truck. EERRRGGG! He told me they'er at the
mercy of the warehouse and there is nothing they
can do. One more day with a rent a car! Anyway, I have a question for all you folks who have had a new one piece installed. Did you get a new nickel
plated slip yoke with your one piece, or is that
not included? Service writter did'nt know. At the
very least though he said they would put that new
grease on the spline to stop the slip clunk deal.
CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY TUCK BACK.....
I know about the bulletin for clunky d/l. but I
just took it in for launch shudder. Hate to take
it back for the the clunk clunk. Who knows how long I'd have to wait for that.. Any info GREATLY
appreciated. Thanks.

^...IMHO, I wouldn't worry about taking it back. Leave it there now, while the rental is on their dime. It is their dime, no? You'll like it more after being out of seat for a few days. They get paid for the time and effort, all by GM.

Yeah, It is their dime for the rental. It's a
plain Jane Saturn. What a bummer. Here I thought
they would at least put me in a new Corvette or
something fun. Were's the love? I'm also having
them change the rear diff oil. I decided to use the expensive GM stuff. I put about 800 miles
of heavy towing on over the 4th. Figured it
would be a good time to do it.

Why can't they just stick the old driveshaft back in and let you drive YOUR truck until the new shaft gets there?

Well, I got my truck back a couple days ago with
the one piece monster installed and the crossmember in tact. I've got just three words to
say, AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.... No more launch
shudder or clunk. My truck is actually starting
to feel like a 40K rig. The one piece did come with the new nickel plated slip yoke and boy is
it smooth and tight. Great job Curt Warner
Chevrolet in Vancouver Wa. Worked with a
coulpe of good service writers on this one. A
real no hassle experience. I made sure that they
knew not to cut the crossmember and was told only
one mechanic does the one piece jobs just for
that reason. For those of you on the fence, I would definitely recommend it. Just make sure they
do not cut the crossmember....

Now, if you're a real man, you'll admit that you really really do miss the the Plain Jane Saturn... :D Heck, I bet Jane will do 100+ MPH, built for speed. :D

I had the 1-piece replacement done a while back and have the same satisfactory results. It makes a difference, for sure.

While in a parking lot at idle speed and with a light load on the truck (like looking for a parking spot) I notice a "clunk" when I push the clutch in. As if the drive train is under a load and in a bind until I release the load by pushing in on the clutch. Is this the "clunk" you guys are talking about?

I have a 3500 with the ZF/6 speed long bed four door, not the crew cab, just two "mother-in-law" back doors.

I do miss good old Jane. Heck, all you need is a
set of Rancho shocks some E rated tires and a hitch and you're on your way. HE HE. But I guess
my truck will have to do for now...

If you have a two piece drive line with the older
style slip yoke, I'll bet you have the clunk. I
have a new one piece because of all the great
info on this forum. The more you read, the more
you know. What is the model # of your truck?
Someone should know if the bulletin applies..

Where will I find a model number?

The truck is a 2002, 3500, Extended cab,long box, with a 6 speed. I'd sure like to get the one piece.

Your model number is on the sticker inside the
drivers side door. Mine for example is K25743.
There was a thread a while ago on what the
numbers mean but I don't remember. I have the
acual service bulletin for launch shudder, so
if you give me all your info,(ie engine, tranny and model #), I'll see if it applies.

Second and third digits: 25 (2500) or 35 (3500)
Fourth digit: 7(short bed) or 9 (long bed)
Fifth and sixth digits: 43 (crew cab) or 53(extended cab)

Launch Shudder On Acceleration
(Install New One-Piece Propeller Shaft)

1999-2002 Chevrolet and GMC K2500/3500

With Automatic Transmission

This bulletin is being revised to add model information, remove procedure steps and change parts information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 01-04-17-001A (Section 04 - Driveline Axle).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a vibration during acceleration from 0-40 km/h (0-25 mph). This may also be referred to as launch shudder. This condition may be more noticeable when the vehicle is carrying cargo or is used for towing.

Correction

A new propeller shaft is available for service to correct this condition. This new propeller shaft is a one-piece design and will replace the current two-piece design.

Install a new one-piece propeller shaft on affected vehicles. Refer to the service procedure and the pans information listed below. Match the affected vehicle with the appropriate propeller shaft. Refer to the usage information below. This fix does not apply to the Chassis/Crew Cab Models (K35943).
