How often should the Allison Transmission Filter be changed, and can you just spin it off and put a new one on? Will I lose any fluid when I change the filter?
I did the first change at 3,000 miles then every other oil change after that. I lost around 10 oz. each time that I replaced with some spare Transynd. Don't forget the magnet on top.

Allison's recommendations are to change the spin-on filter only at 5,000 miles, then change the fluid and spin-on filter every 25,000 miles (for severe duty) or 50,000 miles (for normal duty). Pickup trucks seem to fall into the severe duty category.
GM's recommendations are similar, except that they delay the initial change to 7,500 miles. Obviously they know more than the transmission manufacturer knows...
