View Full Version : ABS Light
Last week, while driving to work, my ABS light came on. Over the weekend, I pulled the wheel speed sensors, cleaned them and recoated with dielectric grease. Reassembled and the light is still on. It figures, I'm one month out of warranty. Anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this? Hoping for a simple fix that doesn't require a trip to the dealer. Also, does anyone know of a handheld scanner that will diagnose this condition as well as read OBD-2? Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks.

The scanner will tell you which wheel. You may find a broken wire near the sensor. The 03 truck I traded off had intermittent ABS light come on at times and you are right it was 2 weeks after warranty expired!!!When the truck was low mileage the light came on and dealer said at that time they knew about the problem-they did nothing and I did nothing and the problem went away until after warranty expired. If you purchased the truck used see if previous owner reported any problem.
Thanks for the reply. I tried an Actron scanner and it shows no codes. Is there any way I can test the wheel speed sensors myself with a multimeter? It seems as though one of these is the problem as the light only comes on after I reach approx. 5 mph.
BTW, I purchased this truck new. No problems til now.
Thanks again,
Chuck
Find an OTC NEMISYS. They run about a grand but work well. Also try taking it back to the dealer, they may goodwill it.
