I need to replace a rear stud...looks like the hub has to come off--is that what you have to do? How do you get the hub off? I went to change my stud today; removed the axle but then saw a big nut in the center--does that have to come off? Searched the net to no avail looking for instructions. Thanks for any help...direct email is alpo4@adelphia.net.

no you don't have to remove the hub. just gotta' drive it out and drive the new one in as far as possible then it will pull the rest of the way in while torquing it. recheck the torque after a couple hundred miles.

It sure seems like there's not enough room...the old stud will hit the p-brake shoes, and the new one is too long to get in. Have you replaced one in the rear? Thanks

What rear axle do you have?

Standard 3.73...I assume it's the GM one.

Duh.... I should have read your original post better. yea the hub has to come off. remove the axle, then the retaining ring, the lock key then the nut. slide the hub off and drive the stud out. ( the caliper must be off as well) to install do a search on axle seal or rear wheel bearing.

Thanks, Madmatt. Guess I'll get a new seal first. Al
