According to dealer & local tranny shop, my '01 Allison w/8.1L 4x4 is shot. I bought a used tranny from a salvage yard to replace it.

My question is, is it as simple as remove & install, or will the computer need to be reprogrammed by the dealer with this switch?

Thanks

With all the diagnostic tools available for the allison, I sure hope you got it checked out electroniclly first. What actually was wrong?

It's a simple R&R but I advise you have a lift. 330lbs of tranny is a lot to wrestle in the dirt! also after the job, you'll want to take it to a dealer to have the fast adapt enabled

Got the switch done (I didn't do it, had a tranny shop do it). Ran good for about 25 highway miles, and then it has gone in to failsafe mode (3rd gear only) with the SES light on. Do not have the code yet, tho.

probably NSBU switch or harness going into it. Mine did the same thing when the harness was loose due to a cracked NSBU switch cover.

Had the mechanic here at work clear off all the codes yesterday, and have driven it about 150 miles since then with no problems. I guess time will tell.
