On the members forum which I couldn't post a reply to for some reason, there was concern about whether or not you would get a new tranny or a reman or rebuilt if a replacement was needed.
Consider this, A reman will probably have all the updates and have a total replacement of all internal parts. Add to this that it is not being put together on an assembly line. I would and am taking the chance that I have a better tranny than one that was built in a hurry on a line.
I can't verify that all the parts were replaced but the one in my truck works very well.
The reason for a replacement in my truck (at 950 miles) was for a front pump seal leak. It now has over two thousand miles on it since replacement and is dry as a bone.
To find out if indeed you recieved a remanufactured tranny, look on the data plate. It will have inprinted on it "remanufactured".
FWIW. I'm happy with the reman and I still have 33,000 miles of warrenty left on the clock. So if it breaks I know where to take it.

Inspector:

The "reman" transmission that you received in your 2003 truck is a new transmission which was rebadged at the reman facility. That is the practice for the M-74 Allison transmission in the current model year truck. smile.gif

How do you know this? Lots of folks think that they are rebuilt.

I am the person that was asking about a reman vs a new allison.
don't know which one is better, all I know, is that I spent 44k for new truck and it has less then 650 miles and I "expect" a new transmission.
if I wanted a project truck, I would have bought the parts myself...

Inspector,
I have a couple of VERY reliable connections who are "in the know" at Allison Transmission. Comes in quite handy every now and then if you know what I mean. ;)

Thanks for the reply. I saw the tranny in the shipping container before they installed it and saw the data plate. It said remanufactured by Allison on the plate. I also looked it over real well and it appeared to be a completly new assy. There was no scaring around the bolt or stud holes that would indcate it had ever been installed or disasembled and then reasembled. IIRC it was also wrapped. It was not painted either.
I am completly satisfied with this tranny as it works as well as the original. And as I said if it is a rebuilt I have 33000 miles of warrenty and then I will get an extended warrenty at that time. I think you are right that it is a new tranny.
Thanks again.
