Anyone taken the flares off their HD?

Has anyone taken the flares off to check for rust or possibly to see what it looked like with them off or maybe just to clean behind there?

It looks like a prime spot for rust to start.

I had mine off, I traded Pnutgrwer some black ones for pewter ones. They are held on by small black plastic rivits and 3m double tape around the edges. No rust, just a little dirt over the paint.

No rust like Schnier said. Just some dirt.

Maverick ~ looks good. Want to do the same w/mine. Were your flares textured or smoothe? Mine are textured and am concerned painting won't turn out right.

Mine were textured. Here is a close up. They turned out almost as smooth as the painted stock ones on my GMC. The local truck acc. store has paint booth so I took them off and dropped them off. They are holding up excellent even with all the gravel up here.
