View Full Version : Wheels not so tough on a 1 ton

Well I had my wheels rotated today. I got 1 bent rim. It was out by 1/4 inch or more. It was on the outside on the drivers side. I need stonger wheels. The Alcoa classic seems to be the ticket as it has almost 1000lbs more rating than the stocker. The stocker is 2452lbs I think and the Classic was rated at 3400lbs I think. Is the Classic avaliable for the new 1 tons? The last load was 3 vehicles-99 Silverado ext cab 4x4, 99 Olds Bravada, 99 Jeep cherokee. My 51' take 3 and my truck. I estimate at 31,000 or 32,000lbs gross. Stupid wheels couldn't take it. I am upset. The Duramax could run 65mph no problem.
Another question. Has anyone looked into 19.5's? Aluminum or steel? What do you know? I found out that the steel rim has the about same rating as the stocker. Aluminum are stonger. Lets see some info please. ;)

Good question. But this is the second set of tires on this truck and the tire shop never said anything about the first time. Makes me wonder now. These tires will be toast in another 8-10,000 miles. I need to make a decision quick.

The only wheel style Alcoa was planning (at least for now) for the new dually is the Hotshot style. Release was to be shortly "after the new year" , and keeps getting delayed due to unspecified 'problems'. A recent post said it may not be until the end of June or July (did not specify what year though... :( )

There have been a few posts describing machining out the hubs on the Classic style so they fit the new trucks. I personally wouldn't do this and will wait it out.

I assure you if they are pre disk brake, change over, it's more than Hub size .. .. They will not fit. No way, no how ... Different offset ...... Shallower ...... Buy some ULTRA WHEELS ... Check out my PICS ........ Alchoa ,EH ....... Ultra wheels are they not made by ALCOHA ? I'll bet they are .........

I have a bookmark somewhere for 19.5's, I'll look this weekend and see if I can find it. I would change in a heartbeat if I had the cash that could be spent on a un-necessity for me.

app forged wheels also makes 19.5" wheels that are direct bolt on, not with adapters..

Sorry to others, but that is one of the first Dually's I would like to own.
What is with the 4500 on the back? Is that an actual model??

I'm trying to get more info on that '01/'02 dually. So far, I've found the conversion was performed by a company named Graphics Design - that likely explains the '4500' on the tailgate...
